Student Protesters Clash with Police in Chile VPN

Thousands of students took to the streets of Santiago on Wednesday, during a 24 hour strike called by the National Convention of Students.

Protesters demanded free higher education for all, as well as further reforms of an education system which they claim is profit driven and only truly accessible to the rich and well-connected. The strike is the latest action in a series of student protests calling for education reform.

Students set up flaming barricades and roadblocks during the early hours, and small groups of hooded protesters clashed with riot police across Santiago in the morning. Police fired tear gas and water canon, and appeared to have brought the situation under control quickly. More protests are expected later
