North and South Korea Agree to Reopen Joint Industrial Zone
After difficult negotiations North and South Korea reached an agreement early on Sunday morning to reopen a joint industrial zone ‘when ready’.
Sixteen hours of negotiations led to the broad agreement to begin taking steps to reopen Kaesong Industrial Zone. The two sides will now conduct independent inspections of the site on Wednesday July 10th, and South Korean businesses will be able to retrieve products and raw materials from the site.
North Korea closed Kaesong in April, withdrawing its workers and denied access to the site by South Korean firms who had been working there.
