One Million Child Refugees Flee Syria VPN

The conflict in Syria has reached another grim new milestone – according to the United Nations children’s agency Unicef one million children have now fled Syria as refugees to neighbouring countries.

“This one millionth child refugee is not just another number. This is a real child ripped from home, maybe even from a family, facing horrors we can only begin to comprehend,” said Anthony Lake, the head of Unicef.

According to the latest UN figures around 740,000 Syrian refugees are under 11 years old. Most have crossed a border into Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq or Egypt, and many are still living in over-populated camps which are struggling to cope with such huge numbers of people.

“What is at stake is nothing less than the survival and wellbeing of a generation of innocents. The youth of Syria are losing their homes, their family members and their futures. Even after they have crossed a border to safety, they are traumatised, depressed and in need of a reason for hope,” said the UN high commissioner for refugees Antonio Guterres.
